Listen to internet radio with Preparedness Radio on Blog Talk Radio

We talk about:

-Chaya’s reading the book (while she was trying to not burn down the house)

-Lisa starts off talking about balance

-Lisa points out staying away from the skewed points of view. As a Mom, you are the most important part of preparedness for your family.

-Keep calm. Parent on.

-Anger or fear? Yes, the chicken still has to get thawed, the birthday party still has to get planned, but if you are not calm no one else will be either. Sure you can be a survival Mom prepper, but how about just surviving life day to day? Mom has to be the steady one.

-Mommy martyrdom—is that really helpful? "Keep

-Chaya and Lisa talk about organization—where to get started!

-The book is written like you are Lisa’s new BFF and the book is cool, calm advice.

-Dividing the essentials from the “clutter.” Not just stuff, but hobbies, etc.

-Purposeful Parenting: what are the kids doing? What is the family involved in? Is it a time drain or something worth doing because it teaches life skills or builds the family up.

-Spending your time and effort directed towards skill building and knowledge expansion instead of going down the path of fear and how bad things can possibly be.

-Think of your preparedness as a bank, you want to make deposits with skills instead of making withdrawals with fear of things you cannot change.

-Preparedness and children: build the skills now and you can deal with the why later on. You can still teach explicitly.

-Start a family skill-of-the-month plan. You can get more information about that on The Survival Mom Blog: www.thesurvivalmom.com

-Children with clear direction and a valid skill set will have a solid answer for “what did you learn today in school?”

-Lisa answers her most frequently asked question

-Stop nagging and start making progress. You may have to jettison the fact that you are not going to convince other people.

-Addressing the thought head on: “If x happens, are we going to be okay?” This is the biggest responsibility for being a survival Mom.

-Getting past seeing yourself as a definition or an occupation

-Investing in independent children that are self confident and are deeply confident in their skill sets is an investment in the future. Can you imagine a whole generation of such children?

-Lisa talks about the fictional families in her books and how they deal with financial hard times

-Teaching the value of money to children

Lisa was just featured on this video about homeschooling–great tips, Lisa!
