Easy Decorating Ideas From Memorial Day

Through The 4th of July

Memorial Day decorations are often taken down once the holiday is over and then put up again for 4th of July. In this post, we share simple and practical ideas that will take your red-white-and-blues from Memorial Day to Independence Day.

Patriotic Wreath

A patriotic wreath doesn’t always have to include flags. As long as you have the three colors, you can turn any wreath into a patriotic one. This summer yarn wreath from Etsy is a great alternative for beach lovers, as well as this wreath with felt flowers. If you like crafts, this DIY pinwheel wreath by KojoDesigns.com is absolutely adorable.

Flowering Plants

You simply can’t go wrong with flowers. White blooms in painted pots (red, white, and blue, of course!) look great on porch steps or by the front door. You can also go with the same color combination for the flowers and just use whatever container you have. If you don’t have a porch, these will still look great on counters, mantels, and tabletops.

Balls of Yarn

Yarn to Decorate

It’s always a great idea to decorate with household items because they serve a dual purpose. If you’re into knitting, use yarn to spruce up a corner in your home. Place several balls in a wicker basket or decorative wooden bowl and set it on a side or console table. Play around with the color combinations! Wool and string balls also work well for this display.

Bandanna Banners

Bandannas are versatile, cheap, and easy to find. Paisley is the most common pattern, but you can also use plaid or even solid colors. To make a banner, fold each one in half to make a triangle and then tie the ends together until you get the desired length. Hang it along porch rails or the backyard fence.

Cutouts

Trace and cut out shapes from cardboards or felt and then string them together using baker’s twine or ribbons. Afterwards, hang them from the ceiling of your porch or patio. You can also cut out smaller shapes and use them to fill a clear glass vase.

Paper Lanterns

Paper lanterns make for attractive décor during the day and create an enchanting atmosphere when lit at night. Hang them on trees and add fairy lights to make your backyard even more charming.

You don’t have to go all out when decorating for Memorial Day and Independence Day. Sometimes, it’s the subtle elements that make home décor more interesting. In this case, it’s a little red here, a touch of blue there, and hints of white all over. Try these ideas and make your patriotic décor last all summer-long!
