Go for the Rustic Kitchen Design

Rustic Kitchen Design

Ourselves in the throes of a badly needed kitchen remodel, I’m torn between several styles of design.  Ella offers up her suggestion to me for a rustic kitchen–enjoy!

When designing a rustic kitchen, it is easy to go overboard in design stores. There is no need to buy much if anything new. Most of what you need can be found around the home. A lot of the items needed can even be found in your neighbors’ waste removal bins or even along the curb. That is right – not all materials really have to be bought and searched for countless of hours in the store.

When thinking rustic design, you will need wood and metal. You can also find things before doing junk removal of your own home, such as glass bottles. Doing a property clearance of your own home can bring you many items like fabrics, cans, and pieces of wood. These items are ideal when designing a rustic space. You might only need to purchase paint and some thread if you are willing to look at absolutely everything in your home with a new eye.  Rough materials and an accent color are the main point.

If you are fortunate enough to find large metal pieces in someone else’s waste clearance pile or even your own, they can be nailed to the ceiling right away. Metal makes a beautiful rustic ceiling material. You can leave it as is, or paint it in a color scheme of your choice. Old barn wood makes a beautiful refacing material for cabinets or if you find enough, build a kitchen island; you can even make rustic signs from it. Pairing an old piece of wood and some glass jars or bottles will make for a wonderful lighting piece. Use an old piece of iron to craft a pan rack or even to make lovely wall sconces. Auto shops might weld something together for you for a fee, if you have a vision.

Floors can be made from an almost endless array of materials. Even old brown paper sacks can be crafted into a beautiful floor. Simply rip the bags into pieces, glue them to the old flooring, and cover with polyurethane (several coats).

Rustic kitchens are considered stylish and really beautiful to the eye. The value of your kitchen can increase tenfold, if you implement such improvements, because you’re bringing character and charm. If you are particularly handy, you can try to create your own furniture, which is a worthy project (though not a small one or for the faint of heart). Rustic furniture makes for a pretty feature for the kitchen, and also convenient. The best part is the materials needed for its creation are often recycled from the junk collection heap, or even as part of your other outdated furniture. Be sure you go through you old furniture collection, as there may be some parts and pieces that can serve you well in your efforts to create the best kitchen interior of your home.

Creating a rustic kitchen design is a very simple do it yourself project. It takes very little money, a lot of creativity, and a lot of recycled rubbish. It will look beautiful in the end.
