Knife Sharpening

& How to Make Your Knives Last

I am frugal, and I cannot afford to replace the knives we have Knife on breadwhen they start to go dull.  I am also clumsy and I run a much greater risk of losing an appendage if my knives are dull.  It is true that sharp knives are safer than dull ones.

Every knife dulls.  It does not matter what they say about it; some will keep the original edge longer than others, but the fact remains that every knife dulls.

Stove Lite Pro and Trivet

Stove Lite Pro and Trivet

The Stove Lite Pro is a high-tech lantern.  Actually, it’s a thermoelectric generator (TEG) that sits on your woodstove, transferring some of the heat into electricity to light the lamp and to charge your electronics.  It also runs a fan that circulates heat more effectively around the room with your woodstove.

It is fully made in America, in Vermont. 1 year limited warranty.

The Stove Lite Pro is a lantern, fan, and cell phone or tablet charging station all in one.
Please read the lantern’s temperature requirements on the stove to full charge, found below this video:

Rechargeable

Along with using your woodstove to charge the Stove Lite Pro, it also has a rechargeable battery, giving you year-round use. The Stove Lite Pro charges an internal battery while running on a wood stove and can also be charged from a 110V outlet.    A solar charger will be available in the near future.

Elegant

The Stove Lite Pro was designed to put you in mind of Grandma’s lantern, but you will see some differences in the functionality upon closer inspection.  For instance, there is a fan near the bottom of the unit, and USB ports at the top of it.  The lamp comes with a beautiful cast iron trivet with the initials “SL” so that you can transfer the hot lamp (it has been on your woodstove) to another surface safely.

Light Quality

The Stove Lite Pro has two light settings to meet your needs, and lights up to 200 lumens using LED technology.  It is equivalent to a 30 watt bulb. If the Stove Lite Pro’s batteries are fully charged, it will run for up to 8 hours!

What You Get

  • USB Cable
  • Trivet
  • Manual
  • Stove Lite Pro
  • Quick Reference Sheet

Type of Stove

The Stove Lite Pro is intended for use on radiant Woodstove only. For the lantern to work properly surface temperatures must be between 300°F to 660°F (150°C to 350°C). The Stove Lite models are not recommended for use on double wall convection type woodstoves, pellet stoves or gas stoves because the surface temperatures are not high enough to generate adequate power. In addition, the lanterns are not intended for use on gas or electric cooking ranges, BBQ’s or campres as overheating and damage to the Stove Lite will occur.
Please use a thermometer on your stove to ensure it reaches the minimum temperature before purchasing the lantern.

Stainless Steel Compost Keeper, 1 Gallon

Stainless Steel Compost Keeper, 1 Gallon

Get a stainless steel compost keeper for both beauty and practicality.  So easy to keep clean, this satin-finish compost keeper also has a dual filter to maintain your kitchen’s freshness, and a stainless steel handle for sturdiness. The 1 gallon capacity means that you aren’t constantly running it out to the compost pile.

Use replacement filter #94F.
To Replace Filters: just pull old filters out and toss. Inside replacement packet are two filters: one square filter and one round filter. Insert the square filter first. Just push it into the lid next to the holes in the lid, using your hands. Insert the round filter second. It goes in the other part of the lid and does not touch the other filter. Just work it in with your hands.

Change the filters approximately every 6 months, depending on use.
The filters should not be washed and reused. The charcoal in the filters absorb the odors and once it has fully absorbed to its maximum, discard filters.

10 Reasons Why Dogs Are Good for Kids

10 Reasons Why Dogs are Good for Kids

Christmas is in the air, and with nearly days before the season of love and giving, parents are clamoring gift shops and toys stores looking for the perfect gift to give their children. Although it might be fun and easy to simply buy a toy car, a train set, or a gadget to satisfy the so-called “immediate wants” of children, these items will eventually be either broken or lose the interest of the child. Plus, given the new world we live in, most children nowadays don’t get to experience the outdoors, but simply get stuck inside the house playing with their “toys.”
